3D PRINTING
-
3D printing is maybe one of my newest skills. Around 5 years ago is when I decided to invest in my first 3D printer, I haven’t looked back since. Being able to take an object that only exists virtually inside the computer to something tangible you can hold in your hands is a testament to the modern world we live in today.
The three main areas I use 3d printing for are:
• Art - Modeling and sculpting characters in 3D and then printing is a modern and relatively inexpensive way of creating things I could not achieve previously.
• Product design - Over the last year I have designed and produced a series of 3D printed lamps. Mainly based around geometric shapes and juxtaposing that against the fluid and tactile feel of electrical cable to create beautiful sculptural forms.
• Around the home - My new favourite phrase is, “I’ll 3D print something to fix that”, and I do, and it works, and it is amazing.
